Car Computing and My 300

I love my 300. I always try to drive it over my Montana SV6 (not a very hard decision). One problem . We don’t have monitors/TVs in the back for the kids. One of the safety features, of the 300, is when driving or reversing you can’t watch DVDs on the MyGIG system. I’ve seen the LockPick system for the MyGIG which bypasses the safety feature but then the kids behind the driver and passenger have to lean over to see the screen. Not ideal for us.

I think a lot of the headrest monitors are a poor fit/look for the 300. The other “factory” option is to get the flip up center console screen. That runs roughly $1,100(usd). I don’t think its really worth that. I’m going to have to put together my own simple system.

9monitorA pair of 9″ Eonon monitors have the look I’m more or less going for. They run $110(USD). I’ll have to investigate an adapter to plug into the Chrysler CAN bus. There is a bracket that bolts on to the headrest stanchions. The monitors then clips onto those brackets. I can then run the plug inside the seat back. Should be no exposed wiring of any sort… just a plug coming out from the seat top, which can be tucked under the headr rest when ot in use. I will have to look at a quick release bracket for the stantions. It’s black and note the capacitive touch buttons on the front. Each monitor has two video ins. Probably have one for the CAN bus and one for something else… GameCube…. maybe. Another possibility is a stand alone Linux box. The Linux box would be a custom system. Boot from Flash, Wireless updates from the house network, Mame emulator, 500+gb media, etc.
